Clothing designers are mostly artistic people and they need to create something new. From the days when wool collected from hunting was used to make dresses, shirts, blouses, and trousers till now, designers have evolved and created different styles. Some looks seem to come back into fashion, but they come back with different new styles. In the case of dress styles, the painting applied to them goes a long way in increasing the interest in the dress.
Ariel Adkins is a person who joined the art of clothing fashion with the painting by directing clothing styles to a different look. She connects anyone, young and old, with art in a more active way than with clothes. She draws inspiration from other artists’ paintings, and sculptures and paints them into handmade clothes. Adkins runs a project called ‘Artfully Awear’ for that purpose and you can scroll down to see the collection of awe-inspiring clothes created there.

Adkins has made it her mission to create a living work of art every day, and she continues to create. Each of her creations can be seen as an inspired work of art from different eras and different mediums. Vintage clothing is often used as a medium of clothing in her creations. It’s amazing how Adkins would paint an interesting piece of art she’d come across in a museum or gallery in a very similar way to these clothes. She told My Modern Met that she started this project, Artfully Awear, as a way to manage the grief of losing her mother.

She aims to provide fashion that evokes good feelings while improving the comfort of the customer and the beauty of the garment. That’s why every garment is hand painted with the relevant pigments and fixed with heat. This ensures its durability, and that means it can be washed safely. It is very inspiring to celebrate creativity with the original work based on these clothes after the creation is painted. It shows how much these are integrated with the original creation.
