When you think of the German Shepherd, you probably think of a guard and protection dog that is willing to give its life to protect its humans. You wouldn’t be wrong – German Shepherds have famous for their strong protective instincts and their unwavering loyalty to their families. But German shepherds are more than watchdogs. They are intelligent, versatile animals that excel in a variety of roles including search and rescue, law enforcement, and service work.
But, Serge seems to be a special case. He is very tender towards injured and orphaned deer. His owner’s habit of rescuing animals has brought out a softer side of him. Serge, the darling pet and guardian of a small farm in Ohio, can be seen showing love to the farm’s animals beyond his normal guard-dog duties. He wasn’t always a big softie though – he was a very adorable dog. But with a growing farm and family of animals, Serge’s true character extends, showing us a humane side we didn’t expect from him.

After Serge was taken to the home of his owner, Cheryl Stephen, his softer side began to arise. Living on a small ‘farm’ in Ohio, this owner created a safe space for animals to be loved and cherished for who they are, rather than the purposes they may serve. Sarge took on a protective role after Mrs. Cheryl carried in a fawn that had strayed from the road. Amazingly, Sarge then stood up as a watchman and babysitter, watching the fawn at every step. Now, Sarge not only takes care of the fawn’s safety but also acts as the poor creature’s guardian and nanny.

On this farm, it’s not just about deer and dogs. Cheryl’s farm has lots of adorable animals. However, Sarge is willing to take care of every animal from horses to chickens.

However, one of the most major roles for the German Shepherd is as a police dog. These dogs are trained to assist law enforcement officers in a variety of tasks, including tracking suspects, detecting drugs and explosives, and providing protection to their handlers. They are often used in search and rescue operations, where they use their keen senses and ability to follow a scent to locate missing persons.

But their work isn’t the only thing that makes German Shepherds so special. They are also known for their strong bond with their families.
